Privacy policy
The short version. Bob keeps a few counts and his own progress on your computer. He does not send anything to us or anyone else, does not have accounts or ads, and does not save what is on the pages you visit or anything you type. You can pause him or erase everything at any time.
Bob the Frustration Muncher (“Bob”) is a Chrome extension made by GVG3 Solutions. This policy explains what the extension does with information. If anything here is unclear, write to gary@startwithmath.com.
What Bob looks at while you browse
To notice frustration, Bob watches three things on the pages you open: your clicks, your scrolling, and your mouse movement. After a burst of fast clicks, he also checks whether the page reacted, meaning whether the part you clicked changed or the page moved to a new address. This checking happens inside your browser. The raw clicks, movements and page changes are not saved.
Once a minute while you are using a page, Bob notes that you are active (from mouse movement, scrolling, clicking, or a key being pressed) so he can tell calm minutes from stressful ones. Bob never sees which key you pressed. That note contains no site name and no page information.
What Bob stores
Bob stores the following in Chrome's local extension storage, on your computer only:
- Daily counts of rage clicks, scroll storms, mouse shakes and dead clicks, and the hour of the day they happened.
- Site names (for example amazon.com) where frustration happened, with a count and points for each. Bob keeps only the site name, never the full web address, page title or path.
- Minutes of activity each day (a number, with no site attached).
- Bob's own progress: his name, points, Belly and Joy levels, say-hi streak, breathing sessions, which siblings have hatched, and your settings.
Daily counts are kept for up to 90 days and then deleted automatically. Bob's progress is kept until you erase it or remove the extension. This information is not synced to other computers.
What Bob does not collect
- The text or contents of any page.
- Full web addresses, page titles, search terms, or a list of the pages you visited.
- Anything you type, including passwords and form entries. Clicks inside text boxes are ignored.
- Your name, email address, location, or any account information.
- Cookies, advertising identifiers, or analytics of any kind.
Who gets your information
No one. Bob has no server, no account system and no analytics, and he does not send information to us or to any third party. We do not sell your data, share it, use it for advertising, or use it for anything other than showing you Bob and your own log. Because the information never leaves your computer, we cannot see it, and no person reads it. Bob follows the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Features that involve your data
- Bob's diary. If your version of Chrome has its built-in on-device AI, Bob can use it to write a short diary entry from a summary of the day: counts and the top few site names. This is processed by Chrome on your computer. If on-device AI is not available, Bob uses built-in text templates instead.
- Share card and report. When you press Save image, Copy image, or Copy today's report, Bob creates a picture or text on your computer. Nothing is shared unless you choose to send it yourself. The card can show your most frustrating site, and you can turn site names off with the checkbox on the Share tab before you save it.
- Clipboard. Bob writes to your clipboard only when you press a copy button. He never reads it.
Why Bob asks for these permissions
| Access to all websites | Bob has to watch clicks, scrolling and mouse movement on the pages you visit to notice frustration. He does not read or record what is on the page. |
|---|---|
| storage | Saves Bob's progress and your log on your computer. |
| sidePanel | Shows Bob in Chrome's side panel. |
| alarms | Refreshes Bob's toolbar icon every so often as his mood changes. |
Bob does not load or run code from anywhere except the extension itself.
Your choices
- Pause tracking at any time: open Bob, go to the Share tab, open Settings, and switch on Pause tracking.
- Erase everything: in the same Settings area, choose Erase all data and start over. Removing the extension from Chrome also deletes everything Bob stored.
- Turn off the on-page pop-ups in Settings if you do not want the small “nom!” messages.
- Bob does not run in Incognito windows unless you allow it in Chrome's extension settings.
Children
Bob does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. He collects no personal information at all.
Changes to this policy
If Bob's behavior changes in a way that affects your information, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
